Thank you for your support of SBSA, without you our leagues wouldn’t be possible. I would like to take a moment of your time to explain our background check policy and procedures for all of our adult participants.
All coaches, assistant coaches and team volunteers that have routine access to our minor-aged players must go through our background screening process. SBSA utilizes a common youth sport service from Protect Youth Sports and pays for all required screening.
Processing takes approximately 24-28 hours to complete. The screening includes a complete check of the National criminal database, a 50-state sexual offender check and a prior state of residence criminal records check. Once complete, all reports are delivered through a secure website and are available only to the SBSA President and Treasurer.
To further ensure confidentiality, reports received include only the last four digits of Social Security numbers. Complete Social Security numbers are not available to any SBSA members, only the screening company. Should any adverse issues be returned in the report, the President and Treasurer will follow an established protocol based on the type of issue on the report. If necessary, they will consult with the Executive Committee of the SBSA Board to determine a course of action.
Anyone requesting to coach a team affiliated with Sycamore Baseball and Softball Association, including the Sycamore Squadron group of competitive baseball teams and any SBSA sponsored Select Softball teams, must complete and pass this process prior to any access to players.
Should you have any questions, concerns or comments about this process please feel free to contact me.
